The space had been a popular place among commuters and driving instructors, who regularly used the area outside the Royal Yacht Hotel as a pick-up and drop-off point.
Although the square is designated for public use, it is owned by the Jersey Development Company, a States-owned company, and traffic wardens were unable to police the parked cars because the space is, in effect, private land.
The Jersey Development Company said that it had spent about £4,000 on the granite bollards. By comparison, it had also received a quote of £25,000 to purchase 50 stainless steel posts.
