When was your first Battle?
I was brought along to the St Saviour shed in 2005 to help with the parish float, Age of Elegance, and I’ve been there ever since!
How have you been involved since?
You name it, I’ve probably done it, except bar driving the floats, of course. Hopefully that will change soon, though.
What are you doing this year?
I’m involved with the construction and technical sides of the float as well as being the designer of this year’s junior float, Top Cat. I leave the flowering and hairstailing to others with much more patience.
What’s your favourite thing about Battle?
Going along and having a laugh. We’ve got such a great team on the junior float, and seeing it all come together for the parades, and again for the Christmas Battle, is a special feeling to know you’ve been part of it.
What was your favourite float to work on?
Good question. Each year provides a unique challenge from all perspectives, yet they are all just as fun to work on. Alien Invasion in 2010 was a big step back into animating the float for us, and all the time spent on it paid off when I was finally able to climb into the spaceship and pilot it along Victoria Avenue.
The best float you’ve ever seen?
Sum up the Battle in three words:
At times it might be ‘More help needed!’ but for everyone involved with the parades, ‘Just great fun’ sums it up nicely.
