A small band of dishonest customers have been trying to sidestep a new pricing system at the Jersey Hospice Care shop in St Ouen by ripping off the tags in the hope that shop assistants will sell them the items more cheaply.
Julie Jubb, a part-time manager at the shop, described the perpetrators’ attempts to reduce the store’s already low prices as ‘disappointing’.
She said: ‘We are a charity shop and we do try really hard to accommodate all our customers. We understand that people don’t have a lot of money to spend but things are cheaper here than you would get elsewhere.’
Ms Jubb said that the tight-fisted bargain hunters were causing problems for genuine shoppers at the hugely popular charity shop, which introduced the pricing system in April following requests from customers to clarify their prices.
