Doug Bannister says that proposals to incorporate the States department as a wholly States-owned private company, as reported in yesterday’s JEP, could unlock the door to new opportunities.

The group chief executive officer, who took on the job a year ago after previously running the UK operation of the world’s largest container shipping company Maersk Line, says that the proposals by Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean to incorporate the ports will create more commercial freedom.

The plans, which would cost £1.8 million to put into effect but which could earn the States £42 million by 2032, are to be debated by politicians in September.
