Transport department chief officer John Rogers yesterday revealed that no funding has been provided for the Sustainable Travel and Transport Strategy.

In a Scrutiny hearing into the three-year spending plans published on Monday, Mr Rogers said that the department was not given the money to put all of the plans into effect.

The plan aimed to reduce peak-hour traffic by 15% and double the number of people who ride the bus or cycle to work or school.

But in an exchange with Deputy John Young’s Environment Scrutiny Panel yesterday, Mr Rogers confirmed that the initiatives would not go ahead because funding had not been secured.
