The Jersey Oyster Company facility on Grande Route des Sablons will allow owner Chris Le Masurier to wash, grade and package hundreds of tons of mussels and oysters before exporting them to markets as far away as China.

The company is now the largest producer of oysters in Britain and in the top ten in Europe.

Mr Le Masurier said that the plant, which employs 17 staff, was a great success story for Jersey. Not only is the business expanding and creating new employment, but it has ambitious ideas to tap into new markets and find new ways to sell its Genuine Jersey products.

The building was started in February 2011 and is due to be officially opened by the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, today.
