In a move that will thrill aviation enthusiasts, British Airways has announced that the flame will be flown to Jersey on its special gold and yellow aircraft, the Firefly, which was painted to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay.

After the arrival of the flame, the torch relay will begin at Bel Royal at noon before relay runners carry it to First Tower, along the seafront to the Radisson Hotel and then to Weighbridge Place at 12.40 pm where a cauldron will be lit in an official ceremony.

A local effort has also seen the creation of 12 special parish torches, which will leave the Weighbridge cauldron at 3 pm.

The Rev Billy Slatter, who has spent three years working on the project, said that each uniquely-designed relay would end in its respective parish, where various community events had been organised.
