The £2.5 million initiative is the latest addition to the Back to Work programme started by the States in November which aims to tackle Jersey’s spiralling levels of unemployment.
In the latest bid to buck that trend, employers will now be paid to give jobs to the long-term unemployed on contracts lasting at least 12 months. It is hoped that the money will be used to help with training and to cover employers’ social security contributions.
Social Security Minister Francis Le Gresley has spent months working out the details of the scheme with officers and other ministers.
