A proposition calling for the electronic stun guns to be available to police firearms officers is likely to be lodged with the States shortly by the Home Affairs Minister.

However, Senator Ian Le Marquand has pledged not to formally present that proposal until a review by the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel on the subject has been completed.

That review – which will look at issues of training, human rights, safety and costs, among others, – is due to continue this week with a public hearing on Friday during which various parties will give their views.
