In comments lodged yesterday, the Council of Ministers said that they would be rejecting a proposal from Deputy Geoff Southern due to be debated today calling for the charges, which were scrapped in 2008, to be brought back for under-65s.
The Deputy says that the money raised by the move would help to pay for healthcare for poor Islanders with serious problems.
However, ministers say that the timing of the proposal is wrong and that any changes to Jersey’s health system should be part of a wider overhaul of services currently being worked on.
