Environment Minister Rob Duhamel says that he has to secure planning approval for 150 units over the next two years, and that using States-owned sites is the key.

The planning permission needs to be secured to fulfil one of the elements of the Island Plan – a document passed by the States last year to set zoning and planning laws for the next ten years.

Deputy Duhamel says that by retaining ownership of the land, the States can drastically reduce the cost of housing – and he says that banks and builders have backed his plans.
