According to the new draft planning guidelines, which would supplement the current Island Plan – which sets out planning policy – it will generally be ‘unacceptable’ for the owners of land used for agriculture, horticultural and fishing businesses among other industries to build houses on the sites.

The document says the protection of employment land will be generally applied to all land and buildings in employment use, except offices and tourism

accommodation such as hotels, guest houses, self-catering and camp sites.
