But a mystery aircraft which woke hundreds of Islanders in the early hours of last Monday is likely to have been nothing more than a 32-year-old Russian cargo plane with a couple of unusually loud engines.
And it is believed that the exceptionally cold and still air which was over Jersey at the time could have effectively beamed the sound back down to ground level.
Hundreds of readers contacted the JEP after hearing the plane apparently flying extremely low over the Island, with dozens claiming that it was so loud they believed the plane had landed – even though the Airport was closed.
