People of all ages took part in the recreation of the scene in John Singleton Copley’s painting in the Royal Square, including an American tourist who played the role of the commander of the British forces, Major Francis Peirson, who was killed in the battle.
Around 160 people had earlier marched through the Island’s lanes from St Martin’s Parish Church to St Helier following the route taken by the Second Regiment of what was then the Jersey Militia.
After a walk of around two-and-a-half hours they were met at the Town Hall by the 1781 Jersey Militia who, in full costume, led them to the Royal Square and fired a salute.
There was also a speech from blue badge guide Martin Walton about the battle and a blessing by the Dean before a meal at the Town Hall.
