After being battered by heavy seas and storm force winds, they were finally back on dry land yesterday just before 3 pm.

They had set sail from Portsmouth at 12.50 pm on Wednesday, but high winds meant that the vessel was unable to dock in Jersey.

Instead, the Clipper and the 125 passengers aboard were forced to spend the night and much of yesterday sheltering off the east coast.

The ordeal finally ended when the wind dropped off enough to make it safe to enter the Harbour.

Condor director Steve Bailey said the weather had been severe and it was the longest crossing he could remember.

However, he said that, despite towering waves, at no time was the vessel in any danger.
