Whitmill Trust has recently established a partnership with a Japanese internet television network UBrainTV in an effort to attract alternative energy technologies from the country to Europe and Jersey in particular.

Talks have been held with Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean and senior officials about how the Island could attract more clean tech firms from Japan.

The Isle of Man government has already entered into discussions with UBrainTV to establish a centre to demonstrate clean energy technology.

In the Jersey talks, Whitmill and UBrain Network executives said that Japanese companies could diversify and base themselves overseas. They would benefit from the geographical, political and economic stability offered in Jersey and have access to European capital markets.

Whitmill managing director Don Wijsmuller said: ‘They were quite positive meetings and there was certainly interest in the technology.’
