The annual Christmas Day swim has become as important a tradition as mulled wine or Brussels sprouts – even if the majority of the population think that those taking part are barmy.

Despite the experience being unpleasant, numbers have been swelling steadily for the last few years.

This year more than 350 people braved the water at swims held at St Catherine’s Breakwater, Havre des Pas, Ouaisné and St Ouen’s Bay between 10.30 and 11 am.
