Odeon demolition is key to regeneration of town
Share this:
From Advocate Philip Sinel.
TWO recent newspaper headlines give pause for thought. The first contained a suggestion that the Town Park would in some way lead to regeneration of this part of town (JEP, 31 October), the second dealt with the sad closure of the Le Gallais furniture store (JEP, 5 November).
The Town Park, nice and overdue though it may be, is not going to lead to the regeneration of the town or indeed the provision of jobs.
The key to regeneration in relation to this area of town lies in the carbuncle which is sited directly opposite the Town Park i.e. the Odeon.
The owners of the Odeon have suggested that it should be demolished allowing them to spend their money building and developing the site. This would certainly be to the short term benefit of the local construction industry and subsequently to the Island as a whole.
We should all contrast that awful building (the Odeon) with that beautiful building occupied by Le Gallais which might not now be closing had someone allowed the owners of the carbuncle to demolish it at an earlier stage.
