Sandy Sawyer, who has stepped down, came under criticism from a group of pilots this summer after the implementation of what the group called ‘an unnecessary flight policy’.

Investigating accountants were also called to review allegations of mishandled Airport contracts, and it is understood that that investigation is continuing.

When asked whether Mrs Sawyer had received a pay-off, Economic Development Minister Senator Alan Maclean denied that any ‘golden handshake’ or lump sum had been paid.

He said that he could not comment on the details of the arrangement but added that there would be no ‘incremental’ cost to the Airport or taxpayer.
