Nick Saunders (37) completed the Bolton Ironman in eight hours and 50 minutes to finish third overall, in a field that boasted over 20 professional athletes.
Ironman triathlons differ from their Olympic cousins simply because they are longer, and therefore, harder races.
The Bolton event, which Saunders has recently returned from, consisted of a 3.8 km run, followed by a 180 km cycle and finished with a marathon.
