It was a valiant effort by the 17-year-old against an older, more experienced, opponent in fellow Bath-based Toby Martin who stole a march on Clayton to win the first set 6-1.
Despite the setback the former De La Salle and Millfield student showed his strength to keep fighting for points, even when 5-3 down in the second, as he clawed back the deficit to clinch the set 7-5.
However, after a break in the opening game of the deciding third set, it played out on serve and Martin progressed with a 6-3 success.
