The 17-year-old, who trains in Bath, held off the challenge of Benjamin Lott to win in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (7). It was a magnificent effort from the Jersey youngster, who has another year left in this age group, as he came back from 5-2 down to clinch the second set and the match.

The former De La Salle and Millfield student will play off today in the semi-final against Toby Martin who, like Clayton, is yet to drop a set. It will be a critical test for the Jersey player as Martin is one year older, now plays professionally and has four career wins to date, plus world ranking points.
