Fifty-three crews took part in the event, which started at Dixcart Bay at 2 pm in bright sunshine and calm seas, and the winners were the Guernsey men’s pair of Joe Paul and Paul Isaacs, who finished in 1 hr 51 min 21 sec – a record for the men’s pairs.
They beat the top three Guernsey men’s fours and were given a standing ovation at the prize-giving ceremony on Saturday evening at St Helier Yacht Club.
Ian Blandin and Derek Mare were in the first Jersey boat home, taking fifth spot.
The day’s high temperatures made it extra hard work for the competitors, although records were broken by both Guernsey and Jersey rowers.
