Senator Alan Maclean was forced to defend the new system during question time, when several Members challenged him about its effectiveness.

Deputy Roy Le Hérissier asked Senator Maclean if he was satisfied that the new system, which will cost £100,000 a year to maintain, could cope with extra flights in the summer and if restrictions on private planes had been introduced to ease pressure.

‘The temporary measures have been introduced as a safety requirement, following consultation with all relevant parties’ Senator Maclean said.
