Island Games: Clay shooting

But despite being made up of just five shooters, the members on the Jersey clay target team will be aiming for the podium in their events.

The squad features two Commonwealth shooters and three making their debut, including a father and son pairing, with the team members targeting success in skeet, ball trap, sporting and universal trench events.

The team

Andrew de la Haye (36): Fisherman. Team manager and shooting in the sporting and skeet singles and team events. Going to third Games after Jersey 1997, where he won gold and silver and set a new record, and Rhodes 2007, where he finished in the top five. Shooter at the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 and on Home International sporting and skeet teams plus silver medallist in the CSF European Division double trap.

Did you know? Andrew started shooting at the age of ten.

Sporting idol: George Digweed, the world sporting champion for the 19th time on the trot.

Mark Andrews (43): Works for Vistra Jersey. Sporting team and singles shooter. Going to Games number six having been to every one since Jersey 1997, except Shetland 2005. Has won six medals, including three gold plus two records, and shot in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Pairs silver medallist in the CSF European Division and Home International skeet and sporting shooter.

Sporting idol: George Digweed.

Wayne Shales (29): Plumber. Shooting in the sporting team and singles competitions plus the skeet pairs and singles events. Going to his first ever Island Games.

Did you know? Wayne has also shot on the Home International sporting and skeet

teams.

Alan Patterson (35): Carpenter. Pairs and singles shooter in ball trap and universal trench events. Making his Games debut and hopes for a personal best and medal finish. Achieved a top six finish in the CSF European Division double trap.

Did you know? Alan only started shooting four years ago.

Sporting idol: Michael Diamond, the Australian world trap champion.

Martin Shales (53): Lorry Driver. Shooting in the ball trap and universal trench pairs and singles. Making his Games debut and hopes to do his best in the Isle of Wight.
