The ‘affordable’ homes – which would be for the social rented or shared-equity markets – could be sold for considerably less than the current average price of around £500,000.

The draft Island Plan, which will set planning policy in Jersey for the next decade, has proposed a new ‘affordable-housing policy’.

The policy would require developers and the public – through the States department Property Holdings – to provide a certain percentage of affordable homes.

The Plan is due to be deabted by the States in ten weeks.
