The latest recommendation from the Planning department comes after Environment Minister Freddie Cohen said that he had safety concerns about the park at a public meeting last month.
But campaigners for the park have branded the idea a waste of money which goes against the whole ‘ethos of the park.’
Opinion, however, seems divided in the public sphere, with some residents signing a petition in favour of the fence and others calling the move a waste of money.
Freya Gallichan, from the Millennium Town Park Support Group, said: ‘It comes as a huge shock – we’re fairly horrified by the decision as it goes against the wishes of the community.’
Meanwhile Andy Flynn has started a petition in favour of the railings.
