But Island boxing’s reputation certainly did not suffer any blows. With only three challenging for the Devon, Dorset and Cornwall title Pisces’ Ryan Powell was given a bye into the final at the White Harte Club, with 18-year-old Tom Frame of Leonis contesting the semi-final against the vastly experienced and talented switch-hitter Hart.
Frame, in only his fourth senior bout, showed his impressive range of skills and ring craft, drawing rich praise from both his own coach, Leonis ABC’s Dave Thompson and Hart’s cornerman who could scarcely believe he had had only four senior contests, having troubled his man with several body attacks.
