The Fire and Rescue Service dealt with 52 house fires in 2010, compared with 41 in the previous year.
The increase matches a recent trend in the UK, where there has been a 30 per cent increase in the number of house fires.
Community fire safety officer Richard Liron said that Islanders needed to be alert to the dangers – especially when drinking.
