Dane Sutton (20), who now plays semi-professional football for Maidstone United in the UK, appeared in the dock charged with grave and criminal assault alongside his father, Carl Reginald Sutton (48), who was arrested on the same night.

Both men pleaded guilty to all the charges, including also resisting arrest and being drunk and disorderly, which all stemmed from a Christmas party in St Peter on 18 December.

Carl Sutton was fined £700 and Dane Sutton was ordered to complete 140 hours of community service and fined £300. Both men were also excluded from licensed premises in Jersey for three months.

The court heard that both men were apologetic and ashamed of their actions and that neither was normally a heavy drinker.
