It’s time for political parties to be formed

From Matthew McNulty.
I LISTENED to the States Budget debate with some trepidation. Some States Members could not put two words together.
There was a lot of posturing and procrastination. Opinions were varied. I really think it is time for political parties to be formed and manifestos produced for the electorate and the parties can be held to account, otherwise broken promises are made at election time by politicians who have no intention of carrying them out.
We are now burdened with price increases on petrol, alcohol, cigarettes and social security for high earners. It is compounded by an extra two per cent on GST.
The UK government are about to increase VAT to 20 per cent and that will be passed on in some instances by local retailers. What are our political masters doing to stop VAT being charged? Absolutely nothing. They should pass a law making it illegal for VAT to be charged.
They have passed a Budget and there is no clarity on zero-ten charges. Have they not put the cart before the horse? There are some countries within the EC who charge UK companies corporate tax.
So let us bring back Clothier and implement the full report and not cherry-pick it to suit the political elite.
