Philip Eric de Figueiredo sobbed as he was told to move from the main body of the Royal Court and into the dock after he was refused bail.

The 58-year-old had earlier lost his appeal against a decision made by

Jersey’s Attorney General to extradite him to Australia to face charges in connection with fraud, conspiracy to defraud and money laundering.

Mr de Figueiredo, who could be flown to Australia in a matter of weeks, has indicated through his lawyer that he will now appeal to the Privy Council in the UK, but first he has to obtain permission to do this from the Royal Court.
