Speaking following a statement last week by the Education Minister that he was looking into selling the Arts Centre and St James to help to pay for a new culture complex, Sir Philip said that the Bath Street cinema was too small.

The issue of finding a new flagship venue for the arts, which could include performance spaces, music rehearsal rooms and a gallery, was raised during a hearing of the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel which was examining future arts and heritage provision.
