Sarah and Ian McLaughlin, who live on the outskirts of Christchurch, held their one-year-old daughter Lily and clung to a door frame while their home ‘shook violently’ for five minutes.
And three students currently studying in the city were also caught in the quake, with one of them unable to stand because his house was moving so much.
