Last week C Le Masurier Ltd, which owns the listed building on Bath Street, announced plans to build a block of flats as well as shops and restaurants on the site as part of a £40 million regeneration of the area.

But Christopher Scholefield, from the SAVE Jersey’s Heritage group, said that the company should not be allowed to demolish the site.

In a letter to the editor published in today’s Jersey Evening Post, Mr Scholefield said that the cinema – built in the 1950s in a 1930s style following a delay in construction because of the Occupation – represents an important part of the Island’s history.
