La Folie quay, the land behind the former La Folie pub, is being vacated by a number of businesses who are moving to the new park near La Collette marina. It is not yet clear what the land will be used for.
Myra Shacklady, the commercial director at Harbours, said that it was likely to be used for the development of the marine leisure industry. She added that it was also possible that homes could be built on the prime waterfront site.
The area around the English and French Harbours has been the subject of recent controversy. Boat owners have raised concerns that the development of the area into a new marina would lead to the loss of so-called drying moorings, which are relatively inexpensive.
They also suspect that Harbours will prefer to use land historically used for maritime purposes for housing.
