Senator Alan Breckon yesterday tabled a proposition which requests that Senator Terry Le Sueur should, in conjunction with other ministers, work to reinstate a new agreement.
The move comes just days after a senior House of Commons cross-party committee criticised the way the UK government had handled the scrapping of the old agreement, which came to an end on 1 April 2009.
The Justice Committee concluded that Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man should have been given more time to discuss alternatives before their agreements were scrapped.
Following a public campaign and the help of a UK MP, the Isle of Man has been given a six-month extension of its agreement.
