Nearly 12 years after the States first agreed to set up a Jersey Police Authority to have oversight of the force and give an independent assessment of the job it does, Senator Alan Breckon has tabled a proposition that would force the Home Affairs department into action.

His proposition would require Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand to come back to the States by December with detailed plans for an independent police authority.

The authority’s role would be to scrutinise the work of the police and offer an independent assessment of success, failure and efficiency.
