ISN’T it about time that the States did more for local families seeking rented accommodation?
We are a local family comprising of two adults and a one-year-old child looking for affordable accommodation as our current landlord is planning to sell his apartment in the New Year.
I never knew that house/flat hunting could be so depressing. I would like to ask the following questions:
• Why are there so many unqualified flats available to rent?
• Why are some landlords so greedy and able to get away with charging extortionate rents, especially when the properties that they are renting are not fit to live in?
• Why can’t the States put a cap on rents?
What Income Support deem as a fair rent for a two-bedroom flat is £191.80 per week!
That might be the case in the UK, but it is certainly not in Jersey. Answers please…
