First women’s cricket inter-insular

The historic match was part of the Guernsey ICC Centenary celebration of cricket and was played in Guernsey, with the home side first to bat.

They started well, taking two wickets in the first two overs thanks to Florrie Copley and Amanda Corbett.

When Jersey went into bat, the sun was out and the wicket was drying up and they were up against some top bowling from county cricketer Hannah Mechem, captain, and ex-Scotland international Lisa Batty.

Batty’s five wicket haul earned her the player of the match honour but it was Jersey’s Norma Hinds, wicket-keeper and captain, who set the magnificent milestone of now having represented the Island in four different sports.
