The five-bedroom house with swimming pool and views across to France should be completed by the end of the summer. It includes more than 10,000 sq ft of accommodation.

After 40 years as one of Jersey’s most popular restaurants, the Bistro Frère shut at the end of 2007. For many years the restaurant was run by Michel Thébault and Emile Silbernagl. They bought the restaurant in 1982 and ran it together until it was damaged by a major fire in 1992.

Proprietor Simon Dufty and partners bought the premises and the business in 2004 but sold the restaurant after four years because trade had dropped off.

The new house, called Le Mont de Rozel, has been built by property developers Chapman Hugo. It was designed by Jon Dyson of Dyson and Buesnel Architects.

The property is currently advertised for sale on the Knight Frank website for £10 million.
