Before a packed and vociferous crowd of nearly 900, Blood gave an excellent account of himself only to be edged out over the five three-minute rounds by Sheffield’s Thomas McCormack who retained his status as British No 1.

It was tough luck on the Jersey fighter too, as he finished the contest strongly, having lost the first two rounds.

The 26-year-old former Le Rocquier and Grouville School pupil said: ‘It was a tough fight and I gave it my all. I was in the mood and although I was beaten I was happy with my performance.’
