A HOST of international tennis stars will compete in a tournament in Jersey later this month – including three of Britain’s current Davis Cup squad.
And Guernsey’s Heather Watson, famed for reaching the quarter finals of the last Australian Open junior event, will make her senior professional debut in the ladies event. Davis Cup squad members Chris Eaton, Colin Fleming, and James Ward will all compete in the Caversham ATP 50,000 euros men’s challenger which begins at Les Ormes on 23 March.
They will be joined in the competition by British No 3 Alex Bogdanovic, Alexander Slabinsky – who narrowly lost out on a place in the David Cup team, and British No 5 Richard Bloomfield.
Also due to travel to the Island for the tournament will be Ukrainian Sergei Bubka jnr – the son of the legendary pole-vaulter – who has been making a name for himself in this week’s Davis Cup tie against Britain in Glasgow, and World No 9 Joachim Johansson who has just returned to the game following a shoulder injury.
