EMILY Ritzema has smashed an 18-year-old 1500m freestyle record at this month’s Jersey Swimming Club Championships – in which every swimmer scored at least one personal best time.
Ritzema took a huge 40 seconds off the time set in 1991 by Rebecca Brewer, and also swam 13 seconds inside Brewer’s 15 year-old girls’ age group record.
At the same championships, Harry Le Breton beat Damien Bouchere’s 800m record – set in 1997 – by nearly ten seconds. Junior champions in the event were Connor Andrews and Sophie Martin.
Over fifty swimmers took part in the championships, with senior wins for Antoin Le Fevre and Leila Osman.
Connor Andrews and Eilidh Campbell won freestyle and breaststroke events in the 13 years and under age groups, Katie Bennett-Jones and Daniel Hotton took wins in the 11 years and under age group, and Kristina Wharton and Finlay Clayton both won 50m breaststroke accolades.
