JERSEY Enterprise has pledged to continue the success of its first year, by helping local businesses to get through the economic downturn.

At an event on Tuesday morning attended by more than 300 businesses, representatives from the department outlined a number of ways in which they plan to develop Jersey Enterprise this year.

Speaking about the economic downturn, the deputy chief executive of Economic Development, Andrew Sugden said: ‘It is difficult to say how, when or where we will be hit in Jersey – all we know is that we will be hit.’

Mr Sugden said that the department was currently working on a rescue plan but it was ‘not yet clearly defined’.

He added that Economic Development is co-ordinating data about how Jersey is currently faring.

The breakfast event, called Celebrating Our Success, was held at the Radisson Hotel. Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean described it as ‘an opportunity for Jersey Enterprise to talk to the business community about how it is supporting them and helping them to meet the challenges that may arise during the year.’
