JERSEY badminton stars Elizabeth Cann and Mariana Agathangelou have been called up to represent England at next month’s European Team Championships.
The tournament is one of the highest ranking badminton events any player can compete at, behind the Olympic Games and the World Championships, and England face opposition from the Czech Republic, Scotland and Wales in the group stages.
Three-times English national champion Cann (29) and University of Bath student Agathangelou (20) are two of 12 players to have made the cut, alongside Great Britain Olympians Nathan Robertson, Anthony Clark, Andrew Smith and Donna Kellogg.
Both head into the championships on the back of an impressive year – Cann retained her national title and won both the Scottish and Swedish Open singles events, and Agathangelou won back-to-back women’s doubles titles at the Scottish and Welsh Open events with her partner Jillie Cooper. The championships take place in Liverpool from 10 to 15 February.
