Five selected for South Africa

BOWLS Jersey selectors have chosen their five-man team for the Atlantic Championship bowls tournament in South Africa next May.

John Lowery and Terry Allen will compete in the championship for the first time and they will be joined by seasoned campaigners Cyril Renouf, Alan Shaw and Derek Boswell.

And the quintet have a lot to live up too as the men's team won three medals at the last Atlantic tournament played in Ayr, Scotland, in July last year – Boswell and Renouf a silver in the pairs, Jamie McDonald bronze in the singles and the fours of Tommy Greechan, Renouf, Shaw and Boswell gaining silver.

Selector David Foster, who chose the team along with Raymond 'Chummy' Porée and Rodney de Gruchy, said: 'The team is chosen but it has not been decided who will play in what discipline and that is likely to be decided in January.'
