THE Credit Suisse Jersey badminton team came within one mixed doubles’ match of beating a strong Middlesex side in their first competition in this year’s national inter county championship, Division II, eventually losing 8-7.
Played at the Gilson Hall on Saturday night, 2nd seeds Gavin Carter and Kim Ashton were one set all going into the last game of the 15 played and having won the second set of their mixed doubles game 21-16 after losing the first 15-21.
As they changed ends they were tantalisingly close to leading their side to a famous win against the Middlesex IIs. However, it was not to be, although they climbed back from 11-3 down against Anneka Thomes and Daniel Thompson to 18-16, at which point Carter proved that one poor shot can cost you the game.
