JAMES Walker’s Formula One dream could take an enormous leap this winter if he is able to secure enough funding to make the step up to GP2.

The former Victoria College student – who finished second in this weekend’s final race of the World Series by Renault season in Barcelona – is still hoping he can compete in the championship that pushed Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen into the world’s top motorsport series.

Walker, pictured, finished 14th in the World Series by Renault championship this season, a five-place improvement on last year’s 19th.

However he says he has attracted interest from a number of teams who could help him crack GP2, which is the biggest recognised feeder series for Formula One, but only if he can get the necessary budget in place.
