JERSEY motocross riders enjoyed great success in Guernsey’s two day event at Pleinmont, last weekend, with Harry Bertram pipping a former professional to the MX2 honours in dramatic style.
Guernsey were set for MX2 glory through star rider Danny Tollett, a former pro from England, and he looked very fast in practice, making the track look easy with huge jumps and fast cornering. But it was Jersey’s Harry ‘The Hammer’ Bertram that won the showdown after some amazing riding from both competitors.
It all went down to the last race, with Bertram ahead of Tollett into the first bend. Tollett, on his 125 cc machine as his normal four-stroke bike is in the UK for the Sheffield International, had it all to do and chased Bertram all the way to the finish flag, despite some close calls with back markers.
Jersey’s Danny Moon also had an excellent weekend and took third, with Chris Le Marquand fifth, Ben Le Cornu seventh, James Dilks 15th and a very unlucky Philip Le Feuvre in 18th place due to a fall in race 4 on Sunday.
The youth Open class was dominated by Sam Allix who took all six wins, though he had to battle hard in the final race after dropping his bike on the first corner.
